Anne Baxter has been making stuff with beads for a long time. In a sense, it is in her DNA — her Irish ancestors were stonecutters — and she spent her early years breaking open rocks to see what was inside!

Anne earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Cooper Union with absolutely no idea what to do with it. During the time she was supposed to be painting and drawing, she was prowling around Manhattan’s bead wholesalers’ district, where she persuaded several wholesalers to sell her a few beads under the table. She strung them on satin cord, and that was the first jewelry she made.

She finally decided to make jewelry with gemstones full-time. She was a member of the San Francisco Women Artists Gallery for several years, where she met many artisans who inspired her and helped her to refine her pieces.

Today she is living in Albuquerque with her family, soaking up the sun and the great spiritual vibes from the mountains.

So, what’s with the name FreakyJewelry?  The term “freak” means a lot of different things.  This is an entry from Quora that Anne particularly enjoys:

“ "Freak" is a term that can have both positive and negative connotations. In a negative sense, it is often used to describe someone who is seen as strange, unusual, or not conforming to societal norms. However, some people may reclaim the term and use it in a more positive, self-empowered way to celebrate their uniqueness and individuality.”

Our power lies in embracing all of our weirdnesses and eccentricities… FreakyJewelry aims to create accessories that empower, by encouraging self-discovery, risk-taking, courage and creativity.  Gemstones are carefully curated and then combined to maximize their energy, magnetism and beauty. To create jewelry as beautiful as you.
